Introduction

This course is a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and emergency Oxygen administration combined into one program. It is designed to teach divers the proper techniques to safely administer CPR and O2 in emergency situations. The student will be qualified at the end of this specialty to:

1. Evaluate a victim.
2. Provide one (1) person adult CPR.
3. Be able to administer O2 to a breathing or non-breathing person.

It is important that the student understand that a re-qualification course is required every two (2) years.

Student Pre-Requisites

1. Be a minimum age of eighteen (18).
2. Be a minimum age of ten (10) with parental consent.

Course Structure And Duration

1. Emergency O2
a. Setup and use of O2 bottle
b. Use of different types of masks
2. Perform CPR on a manikin
a. ABC’s
b. Rule of 2’s
3. O2 if needed

Required Subject Areas

1. What is CPROX?
2. Emergency O2
3. When do you administer O2
a. O2 for non-breathing victim.
b. How to administer O2 through an oro-nasal mask while performing CPR.
C. O2 for breathing victim
I. Non-Rebreather mask.
II. Demand valve mask.
III. Nitrox cylinder/regulator option.
D. O2 safety and handling.
4. Define Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
a. Performing CPR
I. Self-protection.
II. Assess Scene and victim – EMS and statement.
III. ABC’s.
IV. Chin lift and gentle neck extension.
V. Rule of 2’s.
VI. Continue CPR as long as needed.

Required Skill Performance And Graduation Requirements

In order to complete this course, students must:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of oxygen administration and CPR.
2. Recognize and evaluate an emergency situation.
3. Know how to activate or alert the EMS.
4. Be able to provide CPR and administer O2 to breathing or non-breathing person.

Note: The certification is good for two (2) years and must be renewed.

Required Skill Performance And Graduation Requirements

The student must perform one CPR and O2 Administration to the class.
